If you’ve never heard of it, Giving Tuesday is the global movement that encourages people to give back and it takes place on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Just like last year, the new bag will launch on Giving Tuesday. Best Buy launches holiday paper bag on Giving Tuesday They opened their first Teen Tech Centre in Canada at a BGC Club in 2021, which provides youth with the experience of cutting-edge technology to help them build skills for their future. More recently, Best Buy has funded microgrants to help young people create anti-racism initiatives, as well as given funding to support BGC’s equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives. Since then they have awarded camps to more BGC Clubs than any other organization. Best Buy also worked with BGC to launch the very first Geek Squad Academy in Canada. Many stores partner with local BGC Clubs to give back by providing new technology and volunteering their time in their community. During the pandemic, Best Buy also partnered with Lenovo and donated laptops to 650 BGC kids so they could stay connected when it mattered most. Over the holidays, local employees support BGC families through Best Buy’s Holiday Hamper program. They have provided more than $3 million in scholarships to over 400 students through their Best Buy Grade 10 scholarships. Since 2001, Best Buy has supported BGC Canada in many ways. The 2022 penguin design was created by 9-year-old BGC Canada member Christy from Saint John, New Brunswick. They were asked to submit their artwork to be considered for this project. They can use the funds to purchase technology for their Clubs across the country. To show their commitment to the environment and celebrate their long-time partnership, Best Buy is excited to donate all 25 cents collected from the sale of each bag to BGC Canada. Over 200,000 kids and teens are served every year by BGCs in 736 different Club locations across Canada. Even more exciting, just like last year, the proceeds from the sale of the bags go to tech purchases for kids in BGC. What makes the bags sustainable is that they double as festive wrapping paper. The bags were so successful that Best Buy, along with their long-time partner BGC Canada (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada), have designed a new holiday bag. Last year, to highlight their commitment to the environment, Best Buy Canada created a holiday paper bag that doubled as sustainable wrapping paper. Gift wrapping, however pretty, isn’t made from sustainable materials.
